And the winning cake isssssss......

Hi everyone :)  Here are a couple of photos for now about our very proud cake we did for the Baking and Sweet's show competition here in Toronto, Canada.

How do you guys like it?  I think it was a total of 200 hours spent on this cake!  Yup!!!! sleepless nights for sure!  The best part about it is that we had lots of fun making it.  For those that want to know... This cake was made out of modeling chocolate, gumpaste and fondant!  This is a show piece and there was no real cake in it for that matter but if it had to be cake, the cake would be the tree trunk.  What do you guys think?   Please feel free to leave comments.  It was unfortunate that the judge did not see what everyone was seeing. :(  We were told that it was not original... too Tim Burton design and too gory!  Us in particular have our own opinions..... he he he.  We even had eye lashes on the doll.....  I guess you never know!  Here on the right are some photos for you to see for now..... more photos of other detail coming soon.

And the winning cake issssssss.............

Its not your eyes...it is leaning more on the left.
This is supposed to be a mechanical cake....Unfortunately when we pulled the wires it didn't work :(

I also asked the judge about the foil at the bottom of the drum....Well she said that she was judging from drum up!
And the wires hanging out everywhere? well...its OK also because it is mechanical she said!

Here is another closer look!  What do you think?

CONGRATULATIONS "ITS MY CAKE TEAM";Katarina, Leo and Rosa!!!
It was a COOL kicking butt cake!

Wendy Kromer :)

After seeing the Royal Wedding cake... I thought of someone special with a very similar talent and style of Cake decorating.
The extremely talented............ Wendy Kromer

Wendy Kromer and her amazing wedding cake design!

An amazing cake designer, master baker and a friend. Wendy has been creating cakes for Martha Stewart Weddings for more than a decade, she is also the co-Author of the book Martha Stewart's Wedding Cakes and also a former fashion Model. YESSSSS SHE IS AMAZING!!!!!
Back in February this year I was very lucky to be able to drive down to Ohio and meet Wendy at her shop "Wendy Kromer Confections and City Bake Shop" for an amazing Lambeth Method pipping class... Of course the class was amazing.... More than I could have imagined. Not only has this technique always been something I wanted to learn but to be learning it from someone so amazingly talented as Wendy was the best part!

Wendy is a beautiful inside and out and has A LOT of patience with her students...and she makes sure you get it! Lambeth Method looks complicated... IT IS!!! If you are wondering how you will learn such an elaborate technique?.....that is if you want to learn from the best.... This is what you need to do...
1)book a spot in her class in Ohio www.wendykromer.com (a quick flight or even drive from Toronto!) Wendy runs her classes during the winter months, please email her to find out when her next class is. 2)bring a good attitude 3) PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!

Meeting Wendy was one of the most extraordinary experiences, not only is she super at what she does but a very powerful successful women...
Thank you Wendy for everything... You are amazing in every way!

Lets not forget a very yummy part... THE SOUP we had for lunch with warm bread was SOOOOO YUMMMYYY!!!! and of course we had some brownies too!!! Unfortunately there was very little time to tour around Ohio... I guess I will have to go back to tour around...have some yummy soup and visit WENDY again!!! See you soon Wendy!

A very Special 21st Birthday Cake!

Here is another pecial cake story!!!   I love my job!!!!!!!!!

I got a call from a mother that wanted to order a cake for her daughter's 21st birthday.
Here are the details:
I only had about 7 days or less to complete it.  (Having Christmas orders made this hard!)
It had to look like a gift box...and you had to be able to open it! And not only that...the family wanted to be able to place inside some special gifts...such as a letter from a grandmother, pearls, etc.

She needed 4"  on top she said :0
We also needed to incorporate, lots of colors!!!, music (her father had passed away and he was a musician), a daffodil and a gift tag.

Here is the result of what Leo (my brother) and I came up with!

The height of this cake was about 8".... 4" for the gifts and 4" of cake.

What do you guys think?

I spoke to the mother 2 days later, unfortunately they had not tasted the cake yet!  The daughter did not want to cut the cake!  The mother assured me that they were going to cut it that night I talked to her!

Thanks everyone,

leave comments or questions if you wish!

Thank you EDNA!

Well…I get asked a lot how I started and where I got all my Cake Decorating Education. Let me start from the beginning!
Let me introduce you to my first Cake Decorating Instructor: Edna De La Cruz
It was my mother’s idea to take a Cake decorating class at our local Michael’s Store.  I was pregnant at the time (2006) and thought it would be a great thing to learn for when it was time for my child’s birthdays!  I honestly didn’t know what to expect.  My mom had always been the one that had been very crafty and I was not sure what I was getting myself into.
I had gone with my mom to other crafty group sessions and it never turned out that great!  But again this time I gave it another shot!  When I got to the class I couldn’t believe it… The first thing I noticed was…..This totally gorgeous lady was teaching it!  She was super nice, always smiling, sweet and amazing at her cakes!
I remember saying to myself….Wow this is not boring! And she is soooo pretty…I want to be just like her!  She had so much patience to really make sure everyone GOT IT!  I remember being in class and my royal icing was way too hard….or way too runny and she came to the rescue!  She always was positive about the whole thing…  (I had a really hard time with royal icing at that time…ok ok…I Still do sometimes…)

Besides my mom, for her telling me to go to the class…… Edna really made my first Cake Decorating experience one to remember!  Thanks to her I will never stop making cakes….It has now become my addiction!  She is the one that got me hooked!   I hope to one day soon, be able to see her again and do a cake together… I would love to pick up more tricks from her!  She is truly an amazing person… She continues to help many inspiring cake decorators and professional cake designers with her free videos and DVD tutorials.  If you ever get a chance to take a class with her, TAKE IT!  I am sure it will also be one to remember!   To you EDNA:  THANK YOU!  You are beautiful inside and out! Hope to see you soon!  PS: every time I see Viva Paper I think of you…!  Lol  Here is Edna’s Info:  Please check out her amazing work and videos.   www.designmeacake.com   Till next time,  Keep warm and stay sweet; Rosa Sargood www.itsmycake.com  416 904 0606Well…I get asked a lot how I started and where I got all my Cake Decorating Education.
